Teacher Career Coach: 3 Ways We Help Teachers Decide “Should I Love it or Leave It?”

Teachers are in a tough spot right now and many are looking for help in order to navigate the big question…“Should I love it or leave it?” Should I stay in education or should I find a new career?

Let’s be honest, we all know that teachers are running away from the classroom in record numbers. If you’re like me, my TikTok is filled with teachers making a joke of handing in their resignation or saying “Bye Felicia” to the institution that took them for granted, pushed them to the breaking point, and left them feeling undervalued and overworked. But how do they do it? How do they decide if they should stay or go?

Making a career move is daunting especially when you’re an educator. It’s not a cut and dry decision. So how can a teacher career coach help you make the decision that’s right for you? In this article we’re gonna talk about 3 ways a teacher career coach, aka life coach, is going to help you decide if a career change is right for you

A few years back I was at my own crossroads. I needed to decide on my career trajectory. See, I’d been a classroom teacher, but was serving as an instructional writer and coach for my district. I knew I didn’t want to be an administrator, but how else was I supposed to get a pay raise? As fate would have it I was hired to be a Project Based Learning Coach and loved working with teachers in this capacity. (still do) Because I loved coaching so much I decided to explore coaching and see where it took me.  Today I still work in schools, but I took a gamble, got certified as a life coach, and now I help my clients transition from a place of misery to something better, a life that brings them passion and fulfillment.

Since I’ve experienced life coaching and witnessed the clarity my clients have gotten, I know that a teacher career coach, aka a life coach who understands the decision you need to make, is an incredible asset as you explore your options.

These are the top 3 ways teacher career coaches will help

1. We Help You Get Clarity

You’re not ready to throw in the towel yet, but you have to decide if you want to keep putting in the energy. A life coach is gonna help you decide. They won’t give you the answer, but they will create a safe space for you to explore how you feel, decide what’s most important, and support you as you navigate deciding on the right path for you.

2. We Ask Really Good Questions

Leaving education is a difficult decision. You have a lot to consider before deciding what to do. A teacher career coach knows the questions to ask. Honestly, they’re our superpower…but for you, these questions are like magic helping conjure new perspectives and opening your eyes to new possibilities.

3. We’re Gonna Be Your Champion

Teachers need champions. We need people in our corner that hold us up, encourage us, and let us know we’re valued. That’s exactly what a life coach will do. Life coaches make the best accountability partners and champions for your personal and professional development. When you hire a coach you know you have someone not just guiding you,  but someone who will cheer you on regardless of the decision you make.
